Which reminded of one of the cures for that- - coding sprints and paired programming. Having someone looking over your s houlder or being in a room with others working on similar tasks helps to ke ep you focused.\n\nWhich got me thinking more... getting the motivation to write open source software when I'm not paid to do it is alot like getting the motivation to go exercise. It helps to have a buddy or team to train wi th.\n\nWhat if every week there was a "mini-sprint" held at some central lo cation downtown where folks can meet up and code? Kind of like a running cl ub\, but for coders. To fit into the work schedule of people who get paid t o do other things\, the sprint would be before the standard 8-5 work schedu le of most office dwellers.\nMy proposal is that every Monday morning from 6 a.m. to 8 a.m.\, open source hackers meet in downtown Chicago and work on the projects that interest them.\n\nPythonistas\, Rubyists\, Perl Mongers\ , PHPimps\, Javanauts\, and DotNetters are welcome. This effort has resulted in tremendous increases in productiv ity and has served to make computers more functional.\n\nWhat they haven't yet achieved is a way to make the interface more human. Until now.\n\nOn No vember 13th\, the MIT Enterprise Forum - Chicago proudly presents a panel o f Chicago's most visionary leaders in the field of human/computer interface s to discuss the coming era of computer interfaces that operate like people \, not machines. On November 13 you'll hear:\n\n * How online leads can quickly be converted to customers through a personal interactive conversati on ... on the web\n * How a computer interface anticipates what you want from it and is both responsive to your needs ... and considerate of your f railties\n * How computers in a retail store can understand you and your buying preferences to become your personal assistant ... while you shop \n \nPlan to join us for this fascinating\, provocative look at the way you'll be harnessing the power of computers like never before. The panel includes :\n\n * Aza Raskin\, President Humanized As the son of Jef Raskin\, crea tor of Apple's Macintosh\, it was Aza's destiny to become a thought leader on human computer interactions. Aza and his team have designed radically si mplified computer interfaces which eliminate the frustrations of working wi th computers\, making the experience easier and more rewarding.\n * Harr y Gottlieb\, CEO Jellyvision Creator of the wildly successful game "You Don 't Know Jack"\, Jellyvision has harnessed the pacing and response of human conversation to create a new way to have a personal conversation with a com puter. Called the Interactive Conversation Interface (iCi)\, it can transfo rm the conversion of online leads\, producing extraordinary increases in re venue\, even for complex products.\n * Lukass Franklin\, co-founder Luma tilla Lumatila has developed a series of devices that physically sense what a person is doing\, and use that input to drive a more meaningful computer response. The technology uses a wide variety of automated sensors - includ ing RFID\, touch\, motion detection\, and others - to achieve the proper re sponse to normal\, everyday\, consumer behaviors. \n\nWHEN: November 13\, 2 007 - Registration &amp; Networking at 5 pm\; Program at 6:15 pm\n\nWHERE: Drin ker Biddle Gardner Carton LLP\, 191 N. The applications of HTM are broad and can be applie d to solve problems in computer vision\, artificial intelligence\, robotics and machine learning. HTM is based on a theory of the neocortex described in Jeff Hawkins' book entitled On Intelligence. The Numenta Platform for In telligent Computing (NuPIC) is an open computing platform for experimenting with the theories of HTM and for creating HTM applications. A research ver sion of NuPIC was released in March of this year and includes the first set of HTM learning algorithms\, an optimized parallel runtime engine\, and a flexible\, Python-based framework.\n\nThis talk will focus on the algorithm s and software platform. We will describe the spatial\, temporal\, and hier archical assumptions inherent in the current implementation and introduce t he notion of time as a supervisor. We will characterize the behavior of the current algorithm in detail and outline two new algorithms under developme nt. In addition to research on algorithms\, Numenta is committed to support ing a collaborative community of companies\, universities\, and individuals interested in HTM algorithms and intelligent systems. As such\, we will de scribe NuPIC's open architecture\, including its plugin system for experime nting with novel learning algorithms. It is our hope that a combination of machine learning\, software engineering\, and an understanding of the compu tational properties of the cortex\, together with a thriving user community \, will help create a new theoretical understanding of intelligence and a n ew generation of intelligent applications.\n\nSubutai Ahmad VP Engineering\ , Numenta\n\nSubutai Ahmad brings experience with real time systems\, compu ter vision and machine learning to his leadership of the Numenta Engineerin g team. Prior to Numenta\, Subutai served as VP Engineering at YesVideo\, I nc. From 1999 until 2005\, he helped grow YesVideo from a three-person star t-up to a leader in automated digital media authoring. YesVideo's real time video analysis systems have been deployed internationally on a variety of platforms: Large scale distributed clusters\, retail minilabs\, and consume r set-top DVD Recorders. In 1997\, he co-founded ePlanet Interactive\, a sp in-off from Interval Research. ePlanet created the IntelPlay Me2Cam\, the f irst computer vision product developed for consumers. Here is the list so far as I know now.\n\nStart launchi ng a few multimedia competitions that are sponsored at the $500-$1000 level that will leverage existing designers into Milwaukee’s growing tech spot l ight. I expect these competitions to be held monthly or bi-monthly. So we n eed to gear up to support 6-12 of these\, and we will need a place to exhib it the work like Bucketworks\, Discovery World\, Milwaukee Art Museum\, or maybe someplace during Gallery Night?\n\nBarcampUSA and Madison these two e vents are starting to shape up and if Ken can make it I would expect Ken to update everyone where we are at with planning these two events.\n\neInnova te\, is now gearing up for the 2007 season\, and we have decided on a quart erly forum format covering topics under the guise “What’s Next\, In the Sat e of Innovation?” Expected forum topics include:\nthe future of the Interne t and Computing\nthe future of Manufacturing\nthe future of Healthcare\nthe future of Service Culture\nthe future of Education\nthe future of Energy.\ n\neInnovate is interested in creating a forum panel of half expert Wiscons inites\, and half national or global experts for each forum. If you know an yone that could or should participate in these discussions please leave mys elf or another Fireseeder a note as to how to contact these people. eInnova te has an established name in Milwaukee and has been able to bring in notab le speakers like Guy Kawasaki help us continue this trend.\n\nAfter a few c onversations and a ton of enthusiasm it seems like Milwaukee is ready for a streaming super computer. Our target is to establish a business model that will allow us to eventually build a several hundred Teraflop clustered str eaming processor design. The initial target is a test machine in the $50\,0 00 range and from what I have heard from possible investors and grant write rs\, we think the money is there. A 50k machine might buy us between 10 – 5 0 Teraflops of computing power though the use of enabling modern graphics c ards as general purpose processors. Groups like GPGPU.org are well develope d and participate closely with ATI and nVidia as researchers are turning to GPUs or SPUs as a means of simulation based research calculations. We need a place to house this beast\, because its not going in my basement\, I am hoping for support from Bucketworks or Discovery World.\n\nI want to build an interactivity and games lab to develop the next generation of gameplay\, eduplay\, and application interfaces. I think the target here look at gett ing a lab of 5 computers and a companion open game consoles like the PS3 an d XBOX 360\, both consoles support the hobbyist market and will allow indy developer to learn about 3d interactivity. I would expect each station to h ave a 37” Westinghouse 1080p display and a 19-21” widescreen display for th e computer. Again\, I would like the support of Discovery World or Bucketwo rks\; I do know that the Fusion center would be willing to host this until that space is otherwise rented.\n\nAnd Finally we have some knowledge shari ng to do this meeting. I promised Tegan a demo of wiki administration tools for media wiki relating to the barcampMilwaukee.com site. And because of s ome recent developments in the Actionscript community\, the question of wea ther Flash is open source or not deserves some thought and debate.\n\nWe wi ll see you at Bucketworks from 2:30-4:30pm\, Sunday December 10th.</DESCRIPTION><LAST-MODIFIED>20070411T133827Z</LAST-MODIFIED><LOCATION>Old World 3rd St and McKinley Ave\, Milwaukee\, WI 53212</LOCATION><SEQUENCE>1</SEQUENCE><STATUS>CONFIRMED</STATUS><SUMMARY>MKE - Fireseed Group Social Meeting</SUMMARY><TRANSP>OPAQUE</TRANSP></VEVENT><VEVENT><DTSTART TZID="America/Chicago">20061015T143000</DTSTART><DTEND TZID="America/Chicago">20061015T163000</DTEND><RRULE FREQ="WEEKLY" INTERVAL="2" BYDAY="SU" UNTIL="20070401T213000Z" /><EXDATE TZID="America/Chicago">20070121T143000</EXDATE><EXDATE TZID="America/Chicago">20070107T143000</EXDATE><EXDATE TZID="America/Chicago">20061224T143000</EXDATE><EXDATE TZID="America/Chicago">20061126T143000</EXDATE><DTSTAMP>20081120T201232Z</DTSTAMP><UID>4b1nnb93gjcv9jcig2fla74hso@google.com</UID><CLASS>PUBLIC</CLASS><CREATED>20061017T004138Z</CREATED><DESCRIPTION>Come and socialize with Milwaukee's only casual think tank</DESCRIPTION><LAST-MODIFIED>20070411T133827Z</LAST-MODIFIED><LOCATION>Bucketworks</LOCATION><SEQUENCE>2</SEQUENCE><STATUS>CONFIRMED</STATUS><SUMMARY>MKE - Fireseed Group Social Meeting</SUMMARY><TRANSP>OPAQUE</TRANSP></VEVENT><VEVENT><DTSTART>20070318T193000Z</DTSTART><DTEND>20070318T213000Z</DTEND><DTSTAMP>20081120T201232Z</DTSTAMP><UID>4b1nnb93gjcv9jcig2fla74hso@google.com</UID><RECURRENCE-ID>20070318T193000Z</RECURRENCE-ID><CLASS>PUBLIC</CLASS><CREATED>20061017T004138Z</CREATED><DESCRIPTION>this week we are going to have a GPU hackday.</DESCRIPTION><LAST-MODIFIED>20070411T133827Z</LAST-MODIFIED><LOCATION>Cass st and Van Buren st Milwaukee\, WI</LOCATION><SEQUENCE>1</SEQUENCE><STATUS>CONFIRMED</STATUS><SUMMARY>MKE - Fireseed Group - GPU Hack Day</SUMMARY><TRANSP>OPAQUE</TRANSP></VEVENT><VEVENT><DTSTART>20070218T080000Z</DTSTART><DTEND>20070218T100000Z</DTEND><DTSTAMP>20081120T201232Z</DTSTAMP><UID>4b1nnb93gjcv9jcig2fla74hso@google.com</UID><RECURRENCE-ID>20070218T203000Z</RECURRENCE-ID><CLASS>PUBLIC</CLASS><CREATED>20061017T004138Z</CREATED><DESCRIPTION>Greetings all!\n \nYou are cordially invited to an organization al meeting for the FS3 Obsidian ad hoc tech project (FireSeed Streaming Sup ercomputer).\n \nhttp://mydigitechnician.blogspot.com/2007/02/fun-with-supe rcomputers.html\n \nGreen Bay\, February 18\, 2 - 4 pm (ending time depende nt on people's interest -- we have lots more than 2 hours worth of discussi on for those who have more time to meet)\n \nThe meeting location is Solinu s Inc\, 1551 Dousman St\, Green Bay.\nhttp://www.google.com/maps?hl=en&amp;clie nt=firefox-a&amp;q=solinus&amp;near=Green+Bay\,+WI&amp;cid=0\,0\,17088180793330331936&amp;i e=UTF8&amp;om=1&amp;z=16&amp;ll=44.532235\,-88.057285&amp;spn=0.007357\,0.020084&amp;iwloc=A\no r for those who like short links: http://tinyurl.com/36ajv3\n \nThis is th e first official group meeting for the FS3 project.
